In December 2022 FRONTEX (the European Border and Coast Guard Agency) challenged the industry to propose innovative and cost-efficient solutions to detect, track and identify low flying objects. Out of 21 contestants, Marduk's proposal emerged as one of the best, earning a coveted spot in the top ten.
The top ten best-ranked proposals, listed in alphabetical order, are as follows:
Advanced Protection Systems S.A.
CS Group
DAT CON d.o.o.
Dedrone GmbH
FLIR Systems AB (Teledyne FLIR)
Hemeria Airship
Marduk Technologies
Naval Group SA
OPTIX JSC
Technofita Adria d.o.o.
The quest for the grand award continues as the honorees progress to the second stage. During this phase, their proposals will undergo a comprehensive technical review to assess their competency. From this evaluation, the five most remarkable proposals will be selected, and each of these finalists will be eligible for a cash reward of EUR 50,000. Furthermore, the top three proposals will have the opportunity to advance to the third stage, which will include an operational trial. These three contenders will work closely with FRONTEX and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and manage their proposed technological solutions during a three-week operational examination in Estonia, scheduled for the fall of 2023. The ultimate goal of the contest is to identify the most effective and efficient low flying object detection technology that can significantly contribute to FRONTEX's operations in safeguarding European borders.
